Andrea Tarlao was born in Gorizia on January 8, 1984.
Due to complications during the birth, he suffered a brachial plexus injury in his left arm, which caused obstetric paralysis. Thanks to her parents’ cycling roots, with her father Riccardo having a brilliant amateur career and her mother Marina being a former FCI race commissioner, getting on a bicycle was an easy and natural step for Andrea. He started riding and competing in his first races at the age of 8, eventually reaching the Elite amateur category.
Since 2010, in the C5 category, Andrea has become a key figure in the Italian Paracycling National Team. Since then, he has experienced an incredible rise, winning 3 gold medals at the World Championships, 2 silvers and 3 bronzes, and obtaining numerous Italian titles in the road disciplines and against the clock. He took part in the Paralympic Games in London 2012 (finishing in fourth place, just 3 seconds from the podium), in Rio 2016 (where he won bronze in the road race) and in Tokyo 2020 (ranking sixth in the time trial).
